Dawn dolls were made by Topper Toys in 1970. The doll's body is 6" tall. The first dolls released were Dawn, Glori (redhead), Angie (dark brunette), And Dale (black hair, African American). And a starting line of 44 outfits. Topper went bankrupt in 1973 and Dawn had a final inventory of 31 dolls and 92 outfits, and a variety of related items ei. cases, play sets, cars etc. A notable flaw is the blue knees, which is due to the the metal joint in the knee, adversely reacting with the vinyl. The second release of Dawn dolls had a new look to the box and several additional coed friends!! Gary, Ron & Van, Dawn's male counterparts and Jessica & Longlocks. These dolls were later released in a Dancing version. There twisted with the movement of their arms, thus giving them the illusion of dancing. Three dolls were released in the head to toe line.........Dawn, Longlocks & Angie. All dolls come with short hair and various wigs that never seemed to stay on!!! :o) 1972 Topper released the Model agency line and introduced young fans to even more friends!! Maureen, Daphne, Dinah, Denise & Melanie. These dolls were dressed in more elaborate gowns and come with variations in jewelry. The Majorette dolls were released soon after in 72 and introduced Connie, Kip, and April (which is just the Kip with a different name). Dawn was also included as a majorette. Dawn also came in a Flower Pot (Flower Fantasy) and stands amongst plastic (kinda tacky sorry) plastic flowers. These dolls are quite hard to find and are sought after by many collectors. Dawn's Dance party play set came out and introduced us two new friends. Kevin & Fancy Feet (not what I would name my daughter)!! It is said that during Dawn's short time of production, she outsold Barbie. All the girl dolls have rooted hair and eyelashes! The face makeup is exquisitely done. The quality of the doll and her outfits are remarkable when you consider how small she is! All dolls are marked TOPPER CORP., TAIWAN or HONG KONG. There is so much to say about Dawn!!! To me she is the most unique doll!!! I think many of us who so passionately collect, remember hours of playing, and dressing, and pretending. For me Dawn brings back many fond memories!!
